The Spices
Watching the heavens, God's message they saw,
When God's special star filled them with awe.
They knew in their hearts 'twas only one thing
'Twas something special, the birth of a King.
So led by the star these three Wisemen came
Choosing their gifts and bearing the same.
They were aware the roles He would fill
Priest, Savior and King for it was God's will
Three presents they carried for it was His due
Gold and myrrh and frankincense, too.
The gold* that they proffered whether metal or spice,
Was worth it for Him, regardless the price.
Incense for worship, our High Priest is He.
Precious and costly, brought intentionally
For multiple uses they carried myrrh spice.
They were aware of His sacrifice.
They knew that the King was worth more than these,
And finding the Child they fell on their knees.
For He is our Priest, our Savior and King.
Thus these special spices to Him they did bring.

*Coming from the east, golden turmeric was as valuable as gold in that part of the world.
Some have thought it was turmeric they brought as there was no gold in the east at that time.
