How many times have you looked at vital records, paying attention only to the main information? Today I was looking at Missouri Marriage records today for Layfette, Missouri, 1805-2002. I noticed on the left side different marks for the women. The lady I was researching had been married before (proven with other records) when she married this husband. In the left margin were marks that weren't the same as others entries. I'm going to have to research that. I suspect it it indicates whethere the bride was single (never married) or previously married. I had never noticed this before. It's amazing the little things you can pick up when you look at the original records! It serves to pay attention to your research and every little thing you find. Even the littlest bit can prove helpful and significant.
